Sussexboy
My 14 year old springer has been getting a bit lethargic lately. Have been to the vets for a battery of tests and a battering of my bank account. Upshot is that she has non regenerative anaemia, but they don't know why as all tests have failed to show a cause. The only test left to do is a bone marrow aspirate which is very invasive, and will require a general anaesthetic. The last time she had one of these she took nearly three months to come right again. Given that she is so weak now I am loathe to put her through that again. So I am between a rock and a hard place. She seems happy enough and is eating OK, but is lethargic and prone to bouts of colitis, and she is arthritic. Has anybody on the forum been through this with their dog? She is currently on Metacam for her arthritis and propalin for bladder control. Shame they don't do one for bowel control!!
Cranfield
At 14 years of age, if she is not in pain, I would leave her in peace. I would also think that a General Anaesthetic at her age would be rather dodgy. The colitis and arthritis can be controlled by medication, if necessary. Sussexboy
Thanks for the replies. That's pretty much how I was leaning. I'm just a bit frustrated that I can't do more for her.
Deb B
You've done for her for 14 years, and she appreciates it and loves you for it. As long as she's comfy and happy, you are in a good place.

It sucks when you lose a friend full stop. I have been lucky As I have lost mine through work and have not had to see one get old. Not looking forward to the that either
