Catamong
Hi James, Are you a CPSA member..??, if not, join up now and start shooting serious competitions at Southdown, just down the road from you, if you can hit clays there, you'll hit them anywhere. The biggest problem that most potential sponsors have with taking on youngsters is that many of them start off OK, but when they turn 16/17, they realise there's more to life than shooting, i.e. girls and drinking ... , and many of them go off the rails big time, they lose the plot and sponsors wonder why the hell they backed them in the first place. Far better to get a name for yourself by winning competitions yourself, then wait for the sponsors to come to you, I'm afraid it's a tough world in the competition circuit, you need to prove you've got what it takes to win. Good luck, don't be disheartened, keep plugging away and let us all know how you're getting on. Cat.

Cranfield
The big problem for youngsters in any sporting activity ( show jumping is probably the best example), is that they have to be proven (by competition) to be exceptional, before the Sponsors will appear to fund the training that will hopefully take them to the top. This equation is a great pity, as it means many promising youngsters in many disciplines never get a real chance to explore their potential. The very best of luck to you and when seeking sponsorship start by thinking small. Like your local gunshop providing you with a shooting vest with their name on it and a good discount on cartridges (or even free ones eventually), don't write to Gamebore straight away. Shootingman
Getting people/companies to part with money is nie on impossible, my son started shooting at 14yrs, at 15 her shot for the county, at 16 he was a Welsh International shooting in the British Open & UK International,he picked up the silver medal, following month he went to the European & had the bronze, 2 weeks later he was in the World Championship & came 5th. He was in the magazines, papers etc., the company he works for made him a bit of a celebrity -every thing looking good. Then he approached them for sponsership, a BIG NO-NO. We have since approached in excess of 20 companies, their all say welldone etc. etc. but as for any help, NO.
Guest AA MAN
Hi, Im lucky to get sponsorship off Lyalvale Express, basically I get discount on upto 10000 shells per year and some free clothing which I cannot thank them enough for. What you need to do as Cat says is shoot some registered shoots and get some High Gun wins under your belt (This will take a long time as to win any registered shoot you will always have to beat at least half a dozen England quality shots - eventually you will realize there only human and anyone can be beat on any given day - even Faulds and Digweed) Aim for your county team in your chosen disipline and make sure you have a decent reliable fitted Gun - And learn a good sound technique, try to shoot as many majors as possible to get the big shoot experince I would also suggest you make a clay shooting CV of your best scores I remember my first registered at a Gloucestershire Sporting Championship in 1995 I thought I could win it as i shot about 45/50 at club level targets every week - Boy was I wrong! 63/100 - I was suicidal i had never shot 50 yard crossers ans battues and was i overwhelmed. Sean Ponting won it with 89 which i thought at the time i could not believe considering the targets It took another 10 years but I eventually won the Gloucestershire Sporting Championship - The best feeling in the world What im trying to say is it takes time patience effort and you need a competetive personallity if you stick with it you can do it - and then you will get sponsorship
