I completely agree, but finding a nice one is particularly difficult. I’ve been looking a long time for a mint one. Lots of them get ruined by being heavily modified with all this magpul stuff. I agree too, for what its worth and in my opinion, there are some out there and if you buy one with the synthetic/magpul look but good metalwork, you can always look for decent wood furniture later. The synthetic stuff is also easy to move on. Currently, my Wingmaster is wearing plastic, has its finish removed and I am searching for a trigger plate as the one fitted was drilled with lightening (go faster!) holes at some time in its past. Fortunately, I may have a trigger plate soon as Remingtons used many common parts and I have a lead on a ringed forend. Also a friend has an 1100 stock which will fit. The mechanism is in great shape as is the receiver and 30" barrel.
