njc110381
I'm all happy again now, I just found myself a cheap S/S .410 to play with! It's a Baikal (enough said) in pretty fair condition, choked 3/4 and full with 3" magnum proof. No ejectors, but has a SST which I was hoping to get. I just heard the first rumble of thunder here though, so I'm sat on here talking about it rather than out after the pigeons. I can't believe how hard a decent (or actually any) double barreled .410 was to find within my budget. Does nobody shoot them any more or something I got some 2.5" 14g and 3" 19.5g cartridges too, both with #6 shot. The best choice for close range bunnies I thought? How many of you hunt with a .410 regularly? What performance can I expect from it regarding ranges etc?
ph5172
I used to have a folding .410, great little gun and my mate took a crossing pigeon no problem (if i hadnt seen it i would have never believed it) but i sold it as it just wasnt getting the use as the 12 was always the first choice (possibly wrongly??!!) but for a quick stroll through the fields and woods you couldnt beat it. As for ranges i think the furthest i ever used mine was about 30 yards or so possibly less with 3'' no 6. but at that range i felt more comftable using the 12. BigGun1
I have a .410 and it'd my fav. gun! It's got a hushpower silencer and I can use it just about any where thats legal without having noise complaints! flattens bunnies well out to 35yards too! Floating Chamber
Same pattern circle, fewer pellets! Have owned a good few over the past 45 years. Mainly Webleys and Noricas. Best one I've shot - AYA double ejector. Load your own, it's cheaper! Use SP3 powder, (or Winchester 296, Hodgdon 110, Alliant 2400) Gualandi wad and 14 grams of shot. Plenty of loading charts about on various websites. Also, make your own shot!
njc110381
I'm not too bothered about the cost, I'm not planning to shoot with it all that often really. I just wanted one because they're so tiny! I hit a pigeon down with it on saturday, didn't even flap when it hit the floor! It was about 25 yards away at a guess. I've got some quite good shells for it, fiocchi 19.5g of #6. I'm not buying any more because they're plastic wads, so hopefully the Eley 18g #6 I bought today will be just as good. It isn't fun finding fibre loads for a .410 round here, but I really do dislike plastic
