Hi guys,

Friends, Family and workmates have been bugging me to get on and use Bit-torrent. However, nobodies explained what I've got to do, and where to go to do it  . I know I've got to download a thing called U-Torrent in order to do this but I'm not sure where it's safe to get it from :good: .

Could someone provide me with info on bit torrent please so I can get myself sorted?

Cheers ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent

Peer to peer naughtyness whereby people share files with others as they download them themselves.

You need a bit torrent client, I don't use one but when I did I used http://azureus.sourceforge.net/ .

There are better choices, I know the one I used isn't a good choice for a newb, try the one the people you know use, at least they can tell you how to drive it

Azereuz is a very good java based BT client.

Make sure you read up on it properly, the nak if your using a router is to correctly configure the TCP/UDP Ports that it uses. By default it uses ports 6881 - 6889, i tend to stick a range of random ports in there as it works better this way.

e.g I use 38871 - 38880

Next you need to configure the torrent client, there are guides on the net on how to configure each client to get the most out of it. just google

cheers for the info Russuk. It's very good at explaining how it works and how to go about setting it up. I'll probably use utorrent as that's what everyone else uses.

:rolleyes::good:;)

fiiish1987, use Utorrent, its small & can run in the background, pretty easy to understand, even for some one just starting off on Bittorent,

Don't be a naughty boy now, & remember to SEED....................

remember to update virus software and firewalls etc before playing with torrents as they can be very naughty. i only use torrents when i really have to, dont like the fact that as soon as you connect to download both seeds and peers can see your i.p

Utorrent is about the best BT client. Setting it up can be a bit of a pain but the best advise to start is once you know what your up/down speed is to set your max upload to 10. It is also a free download.

I've been using it for a year or more without any problems. Dont expect to download films etc in a few mins some can take anywhere from a couple of hours to a couple of days.

Some download sites will expect you to seed or you will be blocked.

Also, although I've never had any problems I would strongly advise you scan anything you download with an anti virus/anti spyware before opening/playing to be on the safe side.
