Sciurus
Just to add to Eyefor’s correct explanation. You are signing the documents in advance, so that your solicitor has all the documentation ready for when the other sides solicitor is ready to exchange and agree a date to complete (& move). This is often time consuming if there are several other buyers and sellers in the chain. However at a rough guess, it might take 2 weeks to arrange exchange of contracts (when you are committed to buying or selling) with final completion 4 weeks later. This is a general rule of thumb and depending on the complexity and awkwardness of the other solicitors/buyers/sellers. Just keep in touch with your solicitor and Don’t stress about this, your solicitor is just getting everything ready and sorting out the fine details - suddenly you will find things are all agreed and happening! Good luck
