tikkamark
Hello all i went out for a scout there just after dark yesterday went to a spot i have not tried in a while i was just inside the gate of the field when i spotted a fox out feeding i clipped the lamp to the scope and gained about 100yrds on it i came to an electric fence dividing the field in two and got down onto the bipods i had a good look at charlie through the scope which was very content feeding but the background was not safe there was a wood in the distance which the cattle have access to so it didnt want to take a chance,i waited a while and thought id chance walking to a rise in the field in front of me i did this very slowly put my leg over the fence  ....legs were a bit short for that it blew me out of it the fox was stareing straight at me now so i had to get down really low and creep to the rise eventually got there and foxy was running to a small wood i kept my eye on her the whole way and just as she was about to enter the wood she stopped and turned back.......i settled the crosshair and squeezed foxy dropped like a lead weight i was very happy with the shot im using remington 55gr accu-tips now and they are something else shoot excellent out of my t3,it was a small vixon from this year at approx 180yrds i was delighted to nail her in that spot as the wood that she was about to enter has some young pheasants in it. The hole you can see is the exit bullet entered spot on I headed back to the car and went to a second spot i wanted to try where a fox had ran off the other evening because of the noise of the jeep this time there was no noise being made as i was on my own.I gave a blast of the light up the field a long narrow wheat stubble field and there was the fox in the EXACT same spot as the other evening i rested the gun on a square bale which was a lovely platform to shoot from lovely height B) but foxy was having none of it and took off like a train down the field and disappeared behind a bale the shadow the bale was casting was hiding the fox it eventually appeared a long way out trotting across the field now i gave a quick hand squeal and she stopped in her tracks i just had the trigger pulled and she stepped foward bullet bowled her over and a very loud dull thump came back i knew it hit her a bit far back but it still killed her stone dead i hate when it occurs but dead is dead.Accu-tip did its job very well huge exit wound i guess it was the shock of the impact that killed her so quick paced it at 220yrds.My mate rang me just after the shot and said well done i asked him how did he know i got one........he said was getting out of his car and heard a loud thump in the distance followed by a sharp crack and thought it might be me he lives over 2 miles away the sound fairly travels even with the mod

Frank
Excellent Mark. You will find, with most ballistic tip bullets, the shock can really travel fast threw the body and kill quick, a very humane bullet. B) It forgives, at times, mistakes ect. Frank. tikkamark
Hello yet again pw folk i thought id show you a pic of a fox i got tonight....i went out for an hour with the scope light tonight to a fresh cut field of maize i was only in the gate of the field when i spotted the first fox but the ****** was a bit to far away and across a river i left it alone and continued up the field and spotted foxy number 2 this time i was in luck as the fox was not overly far-approx 120yrds and it was content feeding as it was on the brow of the hill with a town in the distance directly behind the hill i had to wait patently for it to eventually come over my side of the hill, slowly but surely it made its way down my side of the hill with a nice backstop for the bullet so i waited for him to stop long enough to get a shot off when i finally got the shot off the 64gr power shok found its mark and sent back a very loud thump but i also heard a ricochet When i got to the body i spotted the rock in the soil the bullet had hit and broke in half after going through the full length of the fox and exiting :o I didnt want to stay out to late so i headed home after scanning a few fields seen a few but i will try for them another night Heres the fox a nice big dog
lazza
and sent back a very loud thump but i also heard a ricochet :o When i got to the body i spotted the rock in the soil the bullet had hit and broke in half after going through the full length of the fox and exiting ................exactly the reason for the backstop Well done Mark, nice to see your getting back into them. Gonna try on sat as i,ve been too busy with the pheasants,Had a couple of good days decoying and evidence of foxy picking some birds we missed so we baited the field yesterday and theres 2 bale hides there to sit in..so fingers x,d. tikkamark
well done mark say the 64gr hits with a good thump :o The 64gr bullets have unreal energy nearly to much for a fox really they would be more suited to a deer sized animal id say but they definitly do the trick on a fox just you need to be extra careful regarding the backstop It was a nice big fox g.h its in the freezer now for a student thats doing a bit of research on them,I hope that the baiting works out for you and you nail the ****** thats nicking your birds B) Its great now that the evenings are going back it makes it a lot handier to get out with the lamp and gun without being late for work in the mornings There is a lot of fields around me being sown and maize being cut and a lot of the grass fields are getting short so the odds are starting to stack up against charlie round here :look: Hope to see a few pics and stories from yourself soon paul
tikkamark
Just in the door there now bagged 4 foxes on my own tonight Did well to get them,First one was in a grass field it was a vixon i came over a rise in the field and seen her feeding she was very close but didnt have a clue i was there the dog fox was feeding just 80yrds away as well but was much more wary and trotted off while the vixon continued to hunt away she was slowly trotting round about 80yrds away now i had a good look at her through the scope while she was feeding as i had plently of time on this one it was a lovely fox but had to go because it was in where the gunclub had put a lot of birds down i waited for the right moment to squeeze off the shot it was a nice healthy vixon. Next stop was only up the road in a field that was freshly sown for winter wheat it has a nice big hill to call form which i did,i called for a while using the electronic caller a fox was trotting in from a long way out i tracked it in all the way to 70yrds i turned off the call and the fox sat up nicely i squeezed and foxy dropped I realoaded then spotted a second coming in the same line the first fox had taken and never noticed the shot but it was still a bit warier than the first fox and stopped and sat at 150yrds i settled the cross on the white of its cheast than squeezed he dropped stone dead.the third was bagged. As i was cutting the tails i spotted a set of eyes over the far side of the field i kept an eye on it through the scope but the shot was a bit dogy as he was right along a hedge with cattle the far side i tried the vixon call and sure enough the fox came in a bit closer-150yrds now he turned and looked i squeezed and down he went power shoks did the trick on all the foxes :o
