Paul in North Lincs.
.............promted by LBs post of Springadors for sale.... I have been contemplating over the next few years having a crack at breeding what would be for me a perfect all round dog. I dont know if its ever been done....I certainly have never seen or heard of this........ what do you think??? I have a 3/4 grey x 1/4 bull (lurcher) and very well bred Springer.......I was thinking of linning the lurcher with the ESS which would produce a half cross.....(strange looking dog I imagine!)...............I would keep a bitch out of the litter and in time, line her back to a 3/4 grey x 1/4 bull lurcher...................which 'should' give me a 3/4 grey/bul x 1/4 ESS.......in 3 generations I can only imagine that this would produce a 'racey' looking rough coated lurcher................which should inhrerit not only the speed and sight from the site hound but also the nose of the ESS .......if it can bush...flush....retrieve, work cover......and course.....then what a combination that would be............... Finally what would the 'fashionable name for these be? all views welcome........................................ All views welcome what would you

Cranfield
IMO too many people have tried and failed to produce the "perfect" hunting dog. It can take many generations and the discarding of lots of progeny, to get anywhere near. Cross breeding doesn't just combine physical attributes, but it confuses temperament and mental stability of the animal. All "pure" breeds are cross breeds from something, at some time in the past and this is a complication that many don't appreciate. I have seen some badly cross bred choices that have produced physical imperfections and worst of all temperament instability and most commonly, fitting.
