njc110381
It could have caused the starter motor to spin backwards, which will probably break it! More likely is that the battery has collapsed its cells and is ********.
pin
A while back when I was younger and more stupid I had a car which I filled with a silly number of amplifiers and speakers. End result was something called the "fuse link" blew. Basically copper wire of a given high rating which acts as a "last resort" to prevent direct shorts - well that or idiot northern types with stupidly powerful electrics. No idea if cars/vans still have them, but if they do that's probably what'd gone. Does anything electrical work at all? If not it will be that. I had a Fiesta of mine featured in Car Security and Stereo Fast Forward magazine. An all Alpine set up - 4 way actives in the front in custom enclosures (I sweated over them and then some), rear active mid range (fill), 2 x 10" infinities in a band pass isobaric in the boot. Split chargers, the lot. 1.2 kw RMS. That must have been 13 or 14 years ago now. Ah memories. Now, I use what comes with the car and couldn't tell you what had been number 1 in the charts for about the last 5 years.

lurcherboy
Ok Sam. When you open the bonnet you will see that on the right hand side of the engine compartment there is a plastic cover that needs to be removed to gain access to the main fuse box/relay plate. Realy 14 is the starter relay. Remove this and visually inspect it for burns and give it a good sniff too. If it has blown you will be able to smell burnt electrics. Fuse 48 is for the starter motor circuit. Second fuse box is under the first one. Again check visually and for smells. The chances are that your mate had the flash of sparks when trying to connect the jump leads and stoped there only blowing a fuse. The engine fuse is a 50 or 80amp job and is twice the size of a normal fuse. However if he connected them and left them connected he could have burnt wiring anywhere. The starter motor feed from the ignition, the ECU, the princible feed to the fuse box etc. As others have said he could also have ****** the battery. I can take you further with the diagnosis but you will need a meter and some cables. I hope this helps you mate. There is 12 volts at the big wire at all times. There is a good earth connection. LB
