Foxing again, took the lamp this time

Ok, even I feel I pushed the limits a bit far tonight but what is a man to do, sit at home and scratch his *** ?

Let me explain  the good lady wife is a little over due with our first littl'un and got to stay at the local hospital tonight to hurry the baba along - anticipating a long night I thought I had better take the rifle as they planned to kick me out at 9:00pm "LAMPING TIME" and if I was not required had better make good use of my time ;)

Looks like I got away with it :good:

Anyway, after returning to the field I got 3 on at the weekend and saw plenty more, I pulled into a layby and got undressed (from hospital visiting clobber  ) and into the trousers I wore last weekend - yep, you guessed it they smell of fox, so must be lucky trousers  .

I watch the field for a while through the bins - it's 10:30 ish now and I can still see half of the field well enough to spot fox, great.

Nothing spotted so decide to make my way to a bale, down the tram lines to minimise noise - but the wind is blowing hard and any noise I make will not be too much of a problem.

I get to the bale and nudge it over, get the rifle on the bipod and look through the bins again, I can make out a fox 150 odd yards away running to the right, then it turns and makes its way up the same tram line that I'm on - looking good. I watched this fox last weekend from a distance so knew where to head.

It come towards me at a good pace (no calling or lamp from me) and it gets to 50 yards and sits and looks at me then turns to the right and sniffs the air - pop, he's down.

I see a couple more and get winded by one lamping (the old round in a big circle trick - I'll need other tactic for that one) another runs in from the up wind side but disappears into cover not to be seen again - all in all a good night.

In the morning I'll be needed as a daddy for the first time - does that mean I'll have to grow up now - doubt it :)

A wet and windy night and a pleasing result + a lull before I post of hunting trips for a while, I'll be up to my eyes in no sleep and nappy's.

Cheers

Congrats on the new arrival Andy, I hope all goes/went well

Suggestion for the big circle trick, if you have a caller than you can leave on ontop of a bale then head off yourself you stand a good chance of nailing that fox. It's a bit of a right time right place trick but it works if you get the timing right.
