Oyster Catcher Nest

I was amazed today to see just how much effort an oyster catcher will go to when building a nest - this one certainly isn’t going anywhere 😀

And another, 2 weeks ago, mid river pontoon, a block of polystyrene mid shot has an Oyster catcher on 3 eggs. Can young waders swim as there is no land bridge.

Yes they can swim, they are Precocial when they hatch, that is they are mobile and relatively mature.

That’s good to know. They are good parents, they have kept the gulls and crows off.
