  3. You're welcome, fine looking birds are they not, I used to be a member of a syndicate in the FOD and Hawfinch were always around and about. All the best.
  4. Dipper and Crossbill in this location also
  5. Best time would appear to be 8am to 11am on recent reports, with the birds favouring the higher trees around the cricket pitch. Good luck.
  6. Near daily sightings of 5-8 Hawfinch at Parkend, Forest of Dean (try the Cricket pitch, Crown Lane.)
  7. 41 Waxwing in a flock on Rodborough Common, (Nr Stroud), Gloucestershire yesterday,15/01/24.
  8. Ducks tend to put on more fat than Drakes, this is to prepare for the breeding season and for their migration back to their breeding grounds in North East Europe, ( Teal,Pintail,Wigeon and migrant Mallard ) This tends to happen as the day length increases, and they sense the need to prepare by eating larger quantities of high energy foods (plants and seeds, invertebrates, and agricultural grains). Most hen pheasant carry a lot more fat than cock birds as the season closes as well.
  9. I get the occasional Chaffinch in the garden, but have a regular daily visit from between 5-10 Goldfinch to the sunflower hearts feeder, also a Pied Wagtail dropped in the other day. All the best for the New Year.

  15. Redwing and Fieldfare have arrived in good numbers throughout Gloucestershire in the last week. Berry laden bushes await them in my area. . .
  16. I'm Sycamore jokes about trees.
  17. Hope there is a Happy Hunting ground afterlife, and all our old dogs are sat waiting for us.
  18. Looks like a female House Sparrow, (no obvious black bib under its bill, as in the Male). With leucistic head.
  19. Probably a Leucistic headed House Sparrow. Can occur as a genetic form, (unable to lay down melanin or pigment for feather colour).
  20. Have used 45 gallon drums with letter box openings x3 in the sides, about 3" from the bottom, on a couple of concrete blocks, we fed barley and wheat, they worked well. Placed them about 6 feet from the edge, on a bank that gave easy access, and return to water.
  21. Spotted an Albino/pure white Swallow today amongst a group of ten or so 'normal' swallows. A first for me, and brilliant to watch it hawking insects with its fellow Swallows. Have seen Albino's/white birds in Pheasant, Blackbird, Woodpigeon, Jackdaw, Magpie and also pied birds in Carrion Crow and Starling but todays sighting was by far the best as regards unusuality.
  22. It's a Collared Pratincole, a scarce summer vagrant from Southern Europe and North Africa.
  23. Have a look at the website 'The White Stork project' plenty of info there, but to see one like you did is great. All the best.
  24. Black Crowned Night Heron at Mythe pits (Tewkesbury), yesterday,28/6/23.
