Sussexboy
Working at home yesterday, sitting in my office perusing that auction site whilst pretending to pay attention on a very boring conference call I hear an almighty kerfuffle in the conservatory. As it sounds like world war three breaking out I thought I had better investigate. Turns out that a collared dove had got in and was flapping around trying to get out. The lab was obviously trying to help and was knocking chairs over etc in excitement. Anyway just as I arrived on the scene he makes a lunge and seizes the dove off the windowsill, turns round and presents it to me. His first ever retrieve of a real bird. He sat and waited until I took it out of his mouth just as I have been trying to teach him. I took the dove and checked it over, other than a few missing feathers it seemed unharmed so I went outside, opened my hands and it flew off. I was well impressed with the boy, and am now looking forward to the season with great expectation!!!

Sussexboy
Yeah I was fairly proud. He is just turned 17 months old and has not really had contact with a warm bird before, he has picked up cold pheasant in the garden at the end of last season, and I have been taking him out with the gun these last couple of months. It looks like he is ready to go and do some work. Of course I shall take it slowly as I want him to be comfortable with what he is being asked to do, but the signs look good.
