Steel cartridges

Hello all

With the 5 year transition to steel coming I want to get used to using steel cartridges. I use 1/2 and 1/4 chokes but my gun isn't steel proofed. Has anyone got a recommendation for a decent cartridge that they use?

Just like with lead cartridges if you just want to dip your toes just try something like GB steel in 32g 3s or 4s, should do all you want in standard pressure steel without breaking the bank. Unfortunately they are only in plastic wad

That's a shame, I was going to have a practice at some clays and they stipulate fibre wad

There are steel cartridges available in fibre wads(or shot cup), they are just that little bit more expensive

The other thing to consider is that many clay ground stipulation are 

fibre wad 

maximum load 28 grams 

shot size 7 or smaller 

some don’t even permit steel shot 

 

best to check with the ground first

I'll have to have a look around Rob, maybe try some different ones out.

Good point farrier, I'll have to check when they open
