DUNKS
Hi, If an aircon compressor locked up solid would the clutch burn out instantly or just slip for a while. Also is it common for compressors to lock up. Thanks. Edited April 19, 2021 by DUNKS
rovercoupe
Don’t know about air con but had a alternator seize on a 5 rib flat belt and it just slipped the belt until I noticed the burning rubber smell and had a look under the bonnet. db135
I’ve seen that a couple of times on older Audi A3’s. ive just fitted a complete second hand A/C pump inc clutch to keep the cost down for the customer. One thing to watch for that the old pump hasn’t shed loads of metal filings into the system as that can cause problems for the replacement pump

My Mercedes has been running with a ****ed pump for a year no bother.
