Shotkam
I have a Ponsness Warren PW 900 Sizomatic and I am hoping for some advice on 20 Guage re-loading recipes. Obtaining powder in Devon is almost impossible as the 2 largest suppliers will not deliver here. I have a stack of used 67mm and 70mm used cases. The loads I need are: 20 GUAGE Fibre wads 21 gram No. 5 around 1350fps 28 gram No. 5 around 1350fps 24 gram No.8 around 1400fps - Clays I am am friendly with someone who has a MEC 600, who will back me up if required. It would be interested to learn how velocity is affected by each additional grain of powder that is added to a given load. Any advice on supplies and recipes would be very welcome. Guest cookoff013
Dude, speed is very immaterial. You will find out that a reloaded 1400 fps is different from some factory 1400fps loafs. Push loads to hard and you will never get them to pattern. My advice would be to find a high quality reload. Maybe 1250-1300fps is ideal. High quality lead. But at that speeds will not be bad. As for your question. You will chase it forever, and when you do the same in another gun will be different. Maybe different results. the loads you purpose is very varied for 20gauge. So probably needs 3 powders. Concentrate on the 1oz 1300fps. Or 25g 1300fps. And switch out to 5s and 9s game/ clay. you will be in for a wonderful suprise. Nb. I just reload 12. But gents here should help
Shotkam
Thanks for the reply. I appreciate that factory loads do not match what they claim. so I am not hung up on speed. After all they all work. I only quoted the fps as I know some reloaders use a Chrono all the time, so I thought I should mention that. Hopefully a few more replies will come in as there are some seriously reloaders out there that do 20 guage.

Loading mainly for Hushpower use so even at 1250 - 1300fps the 20G full length moderator drops the speed back to around the sound barrier, so no crack. These are the powers the local supplier keeps and I am hoping one of them will be suitable for the loads I wish to make.

I would say get all the data you can for suitable powders that are available nearby and stick to it. It's a nightmare getting powders locally for me. I only load steel 20 g but I've now finally got 2 tested loads 21g and 24g and they work really well.

That's sound advice about local supplies. Thanks
