deeksofdoom
Well I know nothing about English pointers but I have a little German wire-haired pointer who will bulldoze through cover provided there's something in it.
russuk
I think you're always putting yourself up for a fall with making sweeping statements like this dog is better than this dog, this dog breed will go in to cover, this breed won't. You simply can't generalise that one breed is better than the other. I have a dainty GSP bitch who wouldn't look out of place wearing a pink tutu and dangly earrings, however like the previous poster, she thinks nothing of bulldozing through cover when she's found something to flush, she works hard, has a great nose and is as tough as nails. al4x
my only experience of English pointers has been with one that is very dainty a very thin coat and not keen on cover. On the other hand I've seen GWP's working very well and also GSP's going nicely so it is a generalisation, have to say I'm very tempted to get a GWP at the moment the problem is there are so few about. MY mate got a nice litter of GWP pups at the mo, i think they are about 4 weeks old from good working parents. If your interested i'll pm you his phone number (we are in South Wales ) i have had a GWP for the past 9 yrs and shes a great working dog in many ways Bry
Roughshot
Ive shot over both breeds and have a GWP myself. In my opinion although all pointers can be head strong at times the english are more obedient of the 2. I think this is due mainly to the fact that GWP or GSP have such a high prey drive and are mad keen. The germans are better hunters and most will work harder and longer in cover to flush the game. The GWP are idealy suited to my type of shooting and I cant ever see myself moving away from the breed.
