This is the wife's stick, Dog rose stick finished off this evening just need to put the steel ferule on and another coat of yacht varnish. The collar is a piece of oak i knocked up, the black end caps are pieces of buffalo horn the Antler and brass collar all had been very kindly given by Old boggy. A very small gap between the brass ferule and the base of the antler is filled with clear lacquer, i didn't know what else to fill it with, how do you experienced stick makers get around this ?

I didn't make the same mistake as the 1st, think it turned out OK.

Thats a first class job there. I’m sure that the wife will be very pleased with it.

Firstly, I am far from an experienced stick maker but I know what you mean about any gap between the brass collar and the antler as the antler is never completely circular. In the past I’ve used clear epoxy resin but now when I do use a brass collar, I try to get one that fits the shaft and is slightly smaller than the antler and shape the antler to fit the collar, thus avoiding any gaps.

Having said that, I think that you’ve done a good job there and a nice polished finish to the buffalo end caps, something that I’m still trying to achieve.

Have a look back through some of the sticks made by Boo and Stimo on here. They are the experts and have made some absolutely amazing sticks.
