chrisjpainter
I've built a garden gate to go in a fence line at the back of our house - mostly because it cuts the walk to my fishing lake by half if I can get through the fence! However I'm hitting a problem with hinges. Due to complicated reasons involving a large oak tree, a buried slab of concrete the design of the gate and the position of wire fence stakes, the gate can only open in one direction and has to have hinges on one side. For the aesthetics, I'd like to have the gate with the front (left image) facing the house. However that would mean putting the hinges on the front of the gate, which I'm not overly keen on. Is there any structural problem with mounting the hinge on the inside face of the fence post (thus between the gate and the post), so I can have the hinge arms on the back of the gate, but have the door opening towards me? Yellow Bear
In the case of the right hand gate the cross brace would no longer function as such allowing the gate to sag.

Yeah, currently the gate has no cross piece, it's going in once I've worked out the best way of attaching it! The above image was me being lazy with the image and just reflecting it, which I'd not spotted would be a problem until you mentioned it!
