wymberley
Are these designed to be a two pin peg spanner type of thing (TOT) or a single pin hook wrench TOT? I ask because the pegs on the tool that came with the Airmax have a different pitch to the holes in the cap. oowee
The ones on my Sidewinder were half circle tools with a peg on each end that went into the corresponding cut out on the scope rings.

Are we on the same page as I’m talking the side wheel (when in use) for adjusting the (side) focus?

Ah sorry I thought you meant the tools for the lens rings. Side wheel just pushed on and off on the sidewinder. There were rubber lugs on the scope and the ring was a tight fit over them. The lugs had to be lined up to fit the ring.

On the Airmax the wheel is held on by a threaded cap. The tool provided is basically the same idea as your lens ring tool but although it does work similarly to a hook wrench why on earth they didn’t have the. pitch of the pegs on the tool match the detents in the cap is beyond me. Walker570
Give Hawke a call, they have always been very friendly to me in the past. The caps on mine have a slightly serrated edge and I undid and refitted mine just by finger pressure. I don't know where the spanner thingy went to. I have trouble with my hands and particularly if the focus has been set for a while the cap can unscrew before the dial moves. For my needs the big 4" wheel is not required (does anybody need/use them?) and so have just ordered the 40mm version which should be sufficient. The existing tool does work and as all the cap needs is a bit of a nip hopefully all will be well.

Yes, I have three of my scopes with the big wheels and find them very good but as always it is a personal thing. They are darn good scopes and in my view good value to. Over the last 20yrs I have used the Hawks and the previous models sold by Deben and have had a couple of prblems due to age of units and the firm have always come up trumps. The last time they decided the scope was not worth repairing but gave me a 50% discount on whatver new model I chose.
