Anyone use these ? A versatile little number, bakes a lovely loaf or stew, 20 odd quid on ebay, get one with a flat lid then you can use it as a skillet, I use them in my wood burning oven which will cook a stew overnight in the residual heat, but any electric/gas oven will do !

We did have one ohhh some 40yrs ago but my wife found it very heavy to move about. Think it went to the scrap man.

We now have a couple of those Schlemmertopfs which work very similarly and we often put all the vegetables in the bottom and then lay a couple of pieces of steak, or pheasant breasts on top of the vegs and let it cook in a medium oven for a couple hours.  You soak the units in cold water for a half hour or so before doing this and I think this then steams the ingrediants as well very similar to the Dutch Oven.   I remember the lass in the Rockies making a big sponge cake one evening which she filled with strawberries someone had ridden in with that day. We where a two hour horse ride from the trail head.   The hot wood /coals from that fire cooked it.

thats looks soooooo good and simple

They are simple especially for bread, you get the pot hot in the oven and stick the the shaped bread in it on some baking paper, with the lid on, the water in the dough creates steam in the confined space which in turn allows the loaf to rise and eventually form a nice crust
