kitchrat
My pal and I have managed to shoot about 30 pigeons (between us) in the last week or so. This has been so effective that it seems all pigeons have left our part of Essex. Well, there is 1 mid-sized flock (200?) left but they don't visit the same field or even the same farm two days in a row. Now I have half a dozen happy farmers and a near empty freezer! Using lots of diesel and getting good at Sudoku!

bunny_blaster
I did nearly 100 miles on Sunday looking for pigeon and all I found was small groups just sat in trees. It wasn’t until I checked a farm at around 14.30 on my way home that I found something worth shooting but I left them be. Hopefully they will still be there this weekend. It’s all part of the fun I suppose

It’s all part of the fun I suppose I live west of you and the last couple of weeks I have done similar, I have done early morning starts, drove around field after field and see the same thing, just the odd field with a few sat in the trees, even the farmers have commented on the lack of pigeons and most have turned their gas-guns off, something is not right. Someone posted about finding a number of pigeon dead with no signs of injury, this got me thinking so I decided to have a walk around the woods on a nature reserve close to home, I can usually see hundreds of pigeons coming into roost from the front bedroom but this year there is just a handful of birds, walking the woods where I know the biggest numbers roost I couldn't help noticing the number pigeon feather splats where something had eaten a dead pigeon, must have counted 15 or more in a very small area, the reserve has a good head of foxes, badgers, sparrow hawks and buzzards so plenty of things to clean-up the dead birds, I will go again and see if I can find a dead pigeon before anything else does and report it.
