DUNKS
Hi I have a x type jag diesel with the Ford engine and gearbox. Problem is an occasional refusal to get into reverse. Gear lever seems to go in OK but when its released it just jumps out. Eventually it will connect. Asked at a few garages and they seem to have never come across this problem. They suggest recon box and linkage which will cost more than the motor is worth. Has anyone suffered this problem.
Weihrauch17
Keep hold of it whilst you reverse.
Gordon R
Google suggests low gear oil level.

Thanks I obviously tried that but the car is not in gear. 32 minutes ago, Gordon R said: Google suggests low gear oil level. Thanks I can understand that if it was an auto box. Gordon R
They suggest manual as well as auto box. I presume the lack of lubrication makes it harder to engage and then not fully. Hence the jumping out of gear.
DUNKS
Found a national company which recons and repairs lots of gearboxes. They say this is a common fault with Mondeo cars and Transit vans with this box. May get it fixed or look for something else.

Don't know but it was suggested on another forum.
