Mice!
Just had a handful of pigeons in the garden, with a youngster, still no white band on the neck, common enough normally but not in January, so what age are pigeons normally when they moult into adult plumage? old'un
it takes a young woody about 16 weeks to acquire its white neck ring, but other things to look for are back of wing colour, beak and eye colour, it takes about six months for a pigeon to get its distinctive orange/yellow eye, it could be an October/November bird, they say they breed all year round but I have yet to find a siting pigeon mid winter. Thank you, that's why I wondered about the age thinking it could have been born over winter, I didn't realise it was near 6 months, and didn't look at it in detail, just the white band was missing.
