A lot of young people would really turn their nose up at this old Victorian dish...............from the time of Kedgeree....Kippers....big pork chops ...mutton...all for breakfast

False smoked haddock poached in milk (full fat) i used semi skinned with double cream...and loverly mash to soak up the gravy.....unfortunatly the bean had past their best..

when i was young i would have had half a loaf of Tiger bread with this to mop up any remenats.....but that would kill me now...

Not that 30 Y/O is really considered as young but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at that. I would also have had 5-6 rounds of wholemeal bread for haddock and mash sandwiches and mop up the sauce afterwards.

My mother used to make similar dishes every week, scratch cooked from fresh. All while working a 40 hour week in a supermarket.

Scratch cooked food is something that you rarely see these days.

Unfortunately, even those that can cook lead such busy lives.

I recently retired, having the ability to start preparing food in the afternoon is brilliant, I've had dinner and sat down in the armchair before I'd have got home a few months ago.

It's also an excuse to open a beer.

After shooting tomorrow I'm making a fish pie and baking some bread for the weekend.
