TOPGUN749
In 1958 Eley Grand Prix 30 grams cost approximately 14s (70p)for 25 at a time when a man took home about £7 a week.So really it was 4 hours work per box. Today that box would cost approximately £12,about 1 hours work. We can get 4x more for our money now,and it’s still expensive!
London Best
I was paying 10s 6d for Grand Prix when I started buying them in 1961.

A man would work 8 hours for less than 75 cartridges then, today he would get about 200.

That year I paid a retired headkeeper £4 for a Harrington & Richardson S/B .410 (big step up from my BSA Cadet). Oh dear oh dear! Item on page 59 and Mrs Thatcher would have had apoplexy. A rifled barrel on a self-loading shotgun. Well that will have to be banned. As indeed she did do in the 1988 Firearms Act.
