30-6 Posted February 9 Report Share Posted February 9 Bumped into a guy who I don't see very often but I know does shooting. Got round to talking about foxes, bad weather and all the usual fed up stuff. He told me about a night he had recently and asked my opinion, so after giving him my answer I thought I would check on here for others opinions who are experienced foxers, and know more than me. He had a fox sitting looking at him at an estimated 80 yds, took the shot with a .223, heard the expected thud but fox runs off fast with tail straight out. He searched around with thermal spotter in the same field for the fox with no joy. He moved then to the next field, hoping he would find a dead fox. About 20 minutes had passed since the shot when a fox " casually in no rush " as he described it came walking down the field, which he shot. Obviously he was gutted and annoyed about the first fox. I suggested that I had seen a RIPS 260 video where hit foxes run with their tail up, and a hard hit fox can run a distance before keeling over. I also suggested the thud he heard could have been the bullet hitting the ground where the field was so wet and squelchy gave the sound. So, Q1 can a hit fox run with its tail straight out rather than up ? And Q2 could the fox he shot be the original 1st fox that ran off after a miss and then just happened to wander passed him ? jall25 Posted February 9 Report Share Posted February 9 Hi 30-06 I have seen all sort of reaction when a fox is hit Rolls over Jumps up Drops and then stands Usually when hit - yet tail up but not always If your mate is using thermal or NV and the fox has no idea about where the bang came from its possible it has come back I have had that happen a few times - usually where i shoot one of a pair and the other goes into cover and then comes out later Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
