Looks good so far. My problem with DIY blueing is durability. Looks good, but rapidly wears off. I hope you have more luck.

Thanks, I have used hot caustic bluing so in theory the durability should be just as good as the factory finish. Time will tell

If you need a good condition replacement forend for your Aut0 5 I have one. £58.00 posted by signed for and insured postal service. If interested I can send your email some pictures if you PM me. If you are near to Leicester it's £50.00 collected so you can examine it yourself.

Thank you for the offer but its actually the stock that I may need a replace, I will give my forend a good inspection and should I find something wrong on it I'll contact you.

What caustic solution are you using

It's one I made up myself it's not expensive for small parts but can get pricey for large parts.

I think up to this point I have spent around £40 on chemicals. But the solution can be used again again.

The recipe and guide is explained very well in this video.

Excellent, but I don't think I will be trying it. 🙂

I was unsure myself in the beginning. I was initially going to do rust bluing but I simply don't have the time this is much quicker.

Boiling hot sodium hydroxide is no joke and must be treated with caution.
