Gas-ram

Sorry if the following questions are basic but I'm pretty new to this.

I can fit a gas-ram to my BSA lighting, I've read it makes it smoother, more consistent, and easier to shoot.

Does it simply replace the spring?

Does it still mean the lighting will have full power?

Can I leave it loaded ready for a shot for a period without damaging anything (like weakening the spring)?

Do they last a long time?

Is it easy to fit?

Is it worth it?

Your help would be appreciated.

maluk, i have fitted a gas-ram to my BSA Superstar and it is just a case of removing the spring and replacing it with the ram.

The power is still 12ft/lbs.

It can remain loaded for far longer periods without doing damage or losing power.

Mine has been in for 7 years and is still as good as new.

If you are capable of fitting a spring , you are capable of fitting a ram.

Yes, in my opinion they are worth it.

I know my gun is not the same as yours but i think my answers may help you .

I can fit a gas-ram to my BSA lighting, I've read it makes it smoother, more consistent, and easier to shoot. - A sharp, short, nasty recoil IMHO

Does it simply replace the spring? - yes

Does it still mean the lighting will have full power? - yes

Can I leave it loaded ready for a shot for a period without damaging anything (like weakening the spring)? - yes but a spring will tolerate this too.

Do they last a long time? - some do and some don't

Is it easy to fit? - yes

Is it worth it? - no. Sell the gun and add the price of a ram to it and buy a better gun in the first place.

I'm not asking what's a better gun to buy, I'm trying to determin whether it's worth trying to improve the one I already have!

You will no doubt appreciate that I am an admirer of the GAS RAM system from previous posts, and although sadly not on commission from Theoben their Non PCP air rifles are the best in the world.

One day you will only find a spring gun in a museum, I am confident of that. :D

Go for it. You wont regret it.

I still can't get over the sound they make when they fire... I was standing about 20 yards in front of and 10 yards to the right of my mate when he took a shot at a rabbit at the weekend and the sound his Fenman made was really odd!

I've heard air rifles before and this was totally different. From another 20 meters, I would probably have not heard it.

Fisherman Mike that was truly a good answer, the gas strut at this time is going to be one of the best purchases that you could possibly attain.

Go For it man!!

P.S check the calibre of the gun as the gas strut has set powers and can defect barrel velocity.

CHECK THIS SITE FOR MORE INFO:

gas strut web page

hope this helped :D
