Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
Hi all. Dead eye duck and i were out in pursuit of foxes again a couple of days ago. Off we went to one our permissions in wales who has a constant battle with foxes, the farmer raises geese and ducks through the year to sell at xmas and is always a little paranoid in november in the run up to slaughter that a fox could get in and run amok. So we arrived on an almost perfect evening for calling foxes After seeing a chuffin fox on the road a couple of hundred yards from our intended farm , with no wind and a 1/4 moon out. There is a huge forestry block on the boundary of this farm extending to some couple of hundred acres and i would say 80% of the foxes taken on this farm are from the fields next to the forestry. Into the first field we go after a brief look round we proceed up to the forestry block. Once in our favourite spot we commence calling mixing up rabbit squeals with vixen yelps. It being so quiet the calls were echoing off the forestry and travelling a good distance. Some 10 minutes later when we are beginning to think of moving a pair of eyes appear in the lamplight. Right on the edge of the forestry block a fox has come a long way to the call. However he sat down on the edge of the forestry weighing the situation up, One wise old fox this one no green youngster that comes running in. Dead eye duck is prone in an instant (cod liver oil doing wonders for his creaky joints) with the .223 deployed on the bipod. Confirmed its a fox through swarovski scope and from 140yds+ out BANG.....THUMP   .....another good hit by aged companion. Wonder if its the one we saw earlier?? We continued calling for another 5 mins in case of its mate being in the area but saw no more. Farmer ecstatic that another one has bit the dust and can't thank us enough as ducks and geese almost ready for killing for the xmas market. Nice to be appreciated! We stopped at a couple of other farms in the area without any luck and headed for home with the temp plummeting to 0c. BBBRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!
