Unless you want to go over 3G/GPRS or satellite, then yes, you will need a phone line.

it works two ways though... Go with cable and get phone, internet and TV in one hit, or bo with BT and then pay for broadband on top of that.

BT are evil, as are most big ISPs, but then again, so is NTL/Virgin media. I went for BT with broadband over the top.

Simple answer is yes you do, although you don't have to use BT you could get a cable connection i.e virgin media (old ntl) wired in just for broadband and that way you would avoid line rental.

I suppose if you were in a wi-fi zone you could use that but it's unlikely, (sorry forgot about GPRS/3G but I think thats quite pricey route)

I believe you could have a microwave connection but that's even more unlikely

One of the IT geeks on here will probably tell you there is someway to do it but that's the limit of my small knowledge.

I've just bought a "3" USB modem - this lunchtime - (sold for laptops, but it will also work with a PC). It downloaded AVG & Firefox without a hitch.

I went for the £15 per month / 24 month version (do BT still want £10 line rental :good: ) and there are some limits but worth a look.

Just need to make sure that you're not in a blackhole  (for 3G coverage)

- I'm on it now, on a train - seems to work a treat.

Cheers
