njc110381
I've seen a lot of these rifles selling really cheaply on the net, are they any good? I want something easy to load, and that will take a mod. It also needs to cycle subs. They say it can take .22 short, long and LR, so I assume .22 short isn't that potent a round (cycling wise)? Is this one of the guns that needs the mod taking off to load it?
Baldrick
I have one of these in my cabinet, and it never gets used. It's a rubbish gun, unless you expressly need a rimfire that can fire a mix of bullets. As you say, you would have to remove the mod each time you wanted to reload, although you'd have to find a way to remove the huge iron sights to fit a mod anyway. It's also very fussy cycling ammunition. The whole gun feels very cheap - varmished wood and impressed 'chequering'. Buy a bolt-action CZ or Anschutz. You won't look back. beatingisbest
If you desparately want a .22lr semi auto then i would get a CZ511 they are accurate straight out of the box. Flash has one, seemed pretty good when i used it
Dunkield
Have a word with Sgt Bang (Mark) about remington semi's when you get down to Devon, Neil As Baldrick says. I would look at the cz452 in the For Sale section on here, it looks very nice.
Sako7mm
I used to have one. You can reload without the moderator being removed if you have a moderator with a small enough diameter. No problem with a Parker-Hale. I had to keep it clean, but that's no big job- just 2 pins to knock out, wipe the mechanism with wd40 soaked cloth and put the pins back. It cycled subs better than any other semi auto I've owned.
njc110381
Mixed opinions If only the firearms cert worked like a SGC, then I could buy one (seen loads for under £100) and if it's no good bin it! I'm getting a bolt action HMR. I want a really cheap auto that works and groups well enough for bunnies, but they seem hard to come by. Everyone raves about the 10/22, but the guns I've used at the club are shockingly bad for jams even with sonic ammo
nicholiath
Dont know about the old remmies, but i have a new 597 .22lr s/a its fantastic has cycled any subsonic ive put in it and you can pick them up new from £
Dirty Harry
Neil, you can try my Quad in .22 and hmr if you want. Works/shoots well in both calibers. Harry
njc110381
Cheers for the offer. I may take you up on that sometime. When we're out you could have a bash with my 6.5 if you fancy it? I'm thinking I may not even bother with an auto, I'll leave it for a bit and give it some thought.
