markm
Nice clear sky this morning, loads of planes in the sky. Why do some planes have them and some don't. And why do some seem to have some for a few miles then they stop?
Spaniel
I always thought it was due to the height they were travelling at...but as normal i could be wrong

Jonsey
Spooky....I tool this photo this morning. With my camera phone so not the best quality. I was pulling up to a junction and I could see this in front of me. Really pretty with the low morning sun. http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z46/Jonsey01/12122007.jpg

I've seen the odd plane but no trail. Lots of light aircraft though. In Cornwall on a clear day you could see at least 3-4 trails somewhere in the sky. ShaggyRS6
As you all know I am partial to a contrail More moisture at the plane's altitude does mean longer contrails and vice-versa, but it's not necessarily the case, because wind speed can also affect how long the contrail is visible before it burns off (remember it's basically an elongated cloud). But if a contrail is long and stays for a good while, most likely moisture is in plenty at that altitude. It doesn't necessarily mean that there's an oncoming storm system, you can have a lot of moisture at high altitudes and it may be dry down below. There are so my factors surrounding contrails. The picture below shows one contrail longer than the others, this is due to the engine EGT being at more power than the other 3. Nifty. http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5615534 I have posted a couple of my contrail piccies below http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5654383 http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5687587 http://www.jetphotos.net/viewphoto.php?id=5687660 You even get a rainbow effect with some http://www.airliners.net/open.file?id=1088...=&photo_nr=
