MadSpringer
Hi, Anyone own or has owned one of these. Looking at having a change around of motors shortly and a Terrano is on the shortlist! Not looking for serious off-road ability, just something capable of getting on and off the odd muddy field and lane, plus has plenty of room in the back for a dog box. Ideal choice would have been the Navara double cab but 2 year old models are still fetching good prices, plus insurance quoted 4 figures! So the choice is between a Terrano or Trooper. The better half is keen on the Terrano and I think she would find it easier to drive. Would appreciate any views and advice! Cheers
lurcherboy
Both good but if the Terrano is cheaper have that. Or, you could go upmarket and get a Land Rover Defender of the Universe 90. :( I am not biased honest guv. LB
ernyha
Mad Springer, do yourself a favour and get a Mitsi Pajero, you wont get better value for money in my experience. :( Mine probably wont start in the morning for the first time in 4 1/2 years now i've said that. MadSpringer
LB The ideal would be Audi A4 TDI Estate plus a decent defender 90! (I'm sure someone will say they don't do decent ones!) Sadly the budget doesn't stretch to the 2. Some home improvents taking priority!
Fisherman Mike
I had a V6 Suzuki GV until 2 weeks ago I got fed up paying the government 8p for every mile I drove on top of the not inconsiderable amount of income tax, national insurance, Vat, etc I already pay. I was putting 200 quids worth of petrol in every month to do 38 miles to work and back each day plus general running around and I looked at the three empty seats each day and considered how often I really did need to go off road ( Not that much I should be walking!) and got rid of it. I bought a 02 plate Fiesta 1.6 zetec sport with 6k on the clock. which sticks to the road better than anything I have ever driven, goes like the clappers and gives me 47 mpg with my sedate driving style. So ok its **** in the mud and wont go up a 1 in 3 and is too low to clear the local brook but what the hell I am about £107.00 per month better off and will soon have enough for that new Gold Pigeon! if i need a 4 x 4 for the weekend I now borrow one of the companies Mitsu 4life D/C commercials or the Trooper. You guys take a good look at all of the big 4 x 4 s and check out the fuel consumption before you purchase. Even the oil burners are sub 30 per gallon and diesel aint cheap. Fishandshoot if you get the cherokee watch out that George Bush doesnt invade your garage looking for hidden fuel supplies. FM.
webber
Buy PETROL then convert to Autogas, 35 pence per litre. The jeep 4 litre and Isuzu V6 are excellent conversions. webber
lurcherboy
Fisherman Mike, sub 30, I would be glad of consumption figures like that. Its just as well I am using an 'alternative' :( LB
webber
LB Dont forget; no salt and vinegar on the alternative! webber

brain dead
madspringer, just thought i'd mention this as you said something about and audi a4. my dad's got an audi allroad, basically an A4 but on suspension that goes up and down. I have to admit, i didn't believe it would be very good (its like someone taking a merc 4x4 off road, they're just not made for it proper) but we went shooting in it across a ploughed field, through deep snow in the alps as well as up a very steep snowy track where our friends landy started to wheel spin and this kept going. was pretty impressive. but expensive lol at over 35k
