Of that you can be sure, but if you only shoot one championship this year, make sure it's that one. Cat
paulos
I'm shooting there at the end of Feb for the BUSA championships so could probably do with some practise there. Unfortunately too much on this month. I'd be well up for the English Open in May though if I can find some company for the day

Cat i will probably shoot it for the fun, but it annoys me the robbing **** charge £50 to shoot 100 clays and then payout measily money in AAA / AA. why should i have to pay for the cpsa ***** to drive around in bloody range rovers!! I think you'll find that the profit from the Sporting majors goes to subsidise the loss making trap & skeet shoots, very sad really..?? Do you know of the venues for any other majors? Cat. Catamong
Hmmm, Thanks for that Emmsy. I thought that the BO Sporting was going to be a team selection shoot this year, how can that be if it's being held the week prior to the Home International..?? Cat. Catamong
Jonsey, Thanks for the info, there are two really top class shoots in that list, the English Open at West Midlands SG, (AKA Hodnet), and the SW Region shoot at Newnham Park, they will be real corkers..!! If you like shooting good Sporting layouts May will be a good month. Cat.

Catamong
Yes, I think even Shugborough could put on a better Sporting shoot than Doveridge, not sure if it's in the West Mids region though? Cat
Emmsy
isnt it supposed to be a premier ground to hold a selection shoot? i think shugborough is WMids but im unsure if its a premier ground. also its a case of who wants it the most rather than it being chosen on its quality of targets. personally i have nothing against doveridge for facilitys, i just think that for a selection shoot a fresh person should be brought in to each ground to set the targets, steve nutbeam, arnie palmer etc so that it doesnt get shot week in week out by the locals and is a decent layout. there were targets last year that didnt really change from the selection shoot to the british at doveridge. no doubt the locals had probably shot most of them targets all year round. Catamong
Well, if you think target quality at Doveridge is bad now, I can asssure you it was even worse before the Bramley family took over, the ground was run by a bunch of toffs who had simply no idea about setting a decent layout. I hear what you say about getting an "independent expert" in to set the course, I've often thought it should be done for the majors, but they may dent some ground owners ego's, and there are some pretty big ones about. Stu Hmmm, I've shot it there for the last 2 years, the organisation and scoring have left a little bit to be desired, but having said that, the ground can run a decent shoot. Cat. Cat imo it should be fair for all, so an independant target setter should be used for anything selectional and major. i dont travel much at the moment to shoots, i used to get around a lot a couple of years ago but it used to bore and annoy me travelling all the way down to southdown or doveridge or shugborough to find targets that were there the month or 2 previous. berettaman1
One ground I avoid like the plague now is Grange farm, Up untill 18 months ago I shot it it regular but most stands were simo pairs edge on 35 to 50 yds, quartering away, When Brian the owner set it up it werent too bad, but when his son set it( he was a b class shooter) it became a farce, it was not unusual to see decent A B and C class shooters shooting scores at least 15 to 20 below their averages. myself included I know guys who still shoot there (locals)and they tell me it still the same.Like Emmsy I dont do the miles now and unless its the Berreta world or the majors I no longer shoot Chatcombe, Longridge, etc , as I am on a poor income and the price of fuel makes it too expensive to travel, I just shoot Kingsley Moor, Doveridge, Shugborough. Allthough now Shugborough is up for sale (30 Million) that is another ground that might be lost. Cheers.
Catamong
Very well put Ron, you're not the first one to point that out, it's a common criticism of the ground, I personally think it's a dull, flat, featureless field, with clapped out equipment. Even the safety cages are falling to pieces. Cat.
Harley Bloke
Ref Grange Farm. Thats a real shame as I have shot it a few times but that was early last year and I was pleased with my scores and was planning on going there this Sun (13th Jan) but may give it a miss if it has changed that much. Why not try Kegworth, a tad further North on the M1, they're running a 100 bird Sporting registered on Sunday 13th, I've heard the grounds improved a bit, got to be worth a go..?? Cat.
