berettaman1
Yes thanks Cat, I know there are some good clay shooters on this site, and like you have done, I was going to offer my services for teaching for free, but on reflection I realised that there is more to it than that, Ie, getting everyone to be checked out for master eye dominance, does their existing gun fit?, eyesight and reaction to the clays ie, where do they see it clearly. (adress point) safety knowledge, etc, then I saw a newby shooter was offering to teach and allthough I admire him for offering, I realised that I perhaps should step aside as perhaps their are shooters on this site more qualified than myself to school anyone, allthough After all these years I can see where shooters are missing, (shame I cant see where I am going wrong lately,) and so I thought I might be teaching anyone my wrong mistakes. Cheers,Ron Edited January 8, 2008 by berettaman1

There is a huge difference between helping out and coaching. When I have done the coaching course and have a good few years under my belt at it I would call myself a coach, until then I will remain a helpful mini bus. Emmsy
true enough, the clay shooting bunch are generally all very helpfull and nice which is perhaps the pitfall. everyone and his dog will try and help you if you miss. time and time again ive struggled on a target and the helpfull fellow behind says 'behind' yet im actually about 4 feet in front im contemplating doing some form of coaching course to get some form of qualification for it. but im wondering which one to do. i was coaching a newbie on sunday, and she was very good. i reckon she shot 70% of what was thrown and that included a tasty looper. berettaman1
Spot on Emmsy, I suffered Sunday at Shugborough, Although I shot a 77X100 I dropped 11 clays on two stands,(dropped 6out of 8 on one stand!) then 5 out of 8 on another! both stands were being shot better than me by some B and C class shooters,Jeeze, I wouldnt mind but I came off not having a clue where I was missing,(Doe) even my mate a c class hit 5x8 on the stand I dropped 6 on.? I noticed Paddy Howe is no longer in the vet top 10 now and the last 4 years my average was usually about 2 less than him, Paddy like myself is 68 years old now so perhaps its just old age, the only way now is down!!Oh well I think the CPSA are going to have a Super veteran team in the World Sporting,65+ so maybe I can get in the Welsh team. Chard
north selection shoot is manchester 5/6 th april if you look at there website. Stu Hmmm, I've shot it there for the last 2 years, the organisation and scoring have left a little bit to be desired, but having said that, the ground can run a decent shoot. Cat. I used to referee in those    ^_^

Chard
Well, c'mon, am I talking nonsense or what...?? Cat. No, not at all They didn't pay enough to get professional refs Most were kids and staggeringly attractive women who didn't know the first thing about clay shooting. They'd get cold and want to go home - concentration over. Of course, my stand was always scored in an extraordinarily competent fashion

The prima donnas used to browbeat the kids into giving them kills when they missed. This is one of the main reasons why you need grouchy animals doing the refereeing (like me) I've seen it happen at Catton Hall too, where they use kids to do the scoring in registered comps. Kids with no interest in clay shooting aren't going to bother to stand their ground over a dispute, so they back off. I used to cause a row rather than back off, which is probably why I'm not asked to do it any more
berettaman1
yep your right there bud I used to shoot Catton and have seen the dosh hunters pressuring kids for clay kills they had not got, I used to take great delight if asked by the cream " I hit that didnt I?" by saying no, that was the wad!! Ha Ha, mind you I see it goes on everywhere kids are marking the stands, the Grange and Kingsley Moor ,spring to mind. thats another reason I have shot birds only for the last 6 years. Ha Ha, mind you I see it goes on everywhere kids are marking the stands, the Grange and Kingsley Moor ,spring to mind. thats another reason I have shot birds only for the last 6 years. I've seen some strange stunts in competitions, the worrying thing is that they all seem to work I was recently (ish) shooting "Birds Only" in a registered competition (not at Manchester) and I met a bloke that I used to see when I was refereeing at Manchester. He is one of the nicest blokes I've met among the ranks of the top shots, no poncey, up-himself attitude and definitely not one of the many prima donnas. I asked him how he had got on and he replied that he'd shot 86, which was pretty good on the day. After he left, my mate told me that he'd just seen him handing his card in, announcing that he'd just re-shot stand 7 "because the scorer cocked it up" and he'd entered the score from his second attempt   I reckon I could win a competition, if I went round reshooting all the stands where I dropped a few  I was amazed, and particularly amazed that the organisers had allowed this. I bet he'd gone back to the stand when there was nobody queueing, and told the kid that he was having another go. I can understand how the kid might have gone along with it, but I think the organisers should have told him to **** off Edited January 9, 2008 by Chard
