I have been a serious Vermin Control Shooter now for thirty years. I have in my Gun Cabinet a 12 gauge, a 410, and a Mossberg pump action 22 L.R.

I am now selling the Mossberg to a friend because I am giving up Lamping for foxes (age and Arthritis demands it) and the use of .22 Cartridges is getting too expensive.

Can any member recommend a good Air gun that I can replace my Mossberg. I know very little about Air Rifles but would want a (not too expensive ) gun to kill Rabbits at 35 yards with a scope, of course. I have had a look at CZAmerican LR, Air Arms s410 but need some advice from a regular user.

Is CO2 better that Pre Charged.

I'd have thought your .22lr would keep you going on the bunnies? By the time you've traded the rimfire you have for a decent pre charged air rifle and charging kit you're going to be at least £250 down. At my estimate, that's 2500 rounds of good LR ammo, and 5000 cheap ones! The CZ American is a .22lr not an air gun by the way!

CO2 isn't great and will be expensive to run if you shoot a lot, air is better. An Air Arms S200 is a good cheap end pre charged gun if you really do want to swap, but I'd stick with what you have myself!

The best place to start looking would be here my friend.

Help the guys out with budget and the type of shooting you will be doing.

Have fun

I am selling the Mossberg because it was made in 1943 and the parts are begining to rattle. My friend is a Gunsmith who collects old guns. I have looked at the CZ American 22LR as a replacement but considered changing to an Air Rifle.

The trouble with these messageboards is they are full of "Smart-*****" and pedants. Make you feel better.?

All I wanted was information from a shooter with experience of airguns. I lived in Southern California for ten years where they consider airguns and BB guns are for keeping children off your front lawn.

Firstly welcome to PW. If you want a good air rifle on a budget, I would recommend going for Pre-charge, try looking at the Airgun centre's website. They have a wide range of guns, scopes to suit all pockets. The owner is a very knowledgable guy and they offer a lifetime guarentee for all guns and equipment sold by them for as long as it stays with the original purchaser.

No idea where you are based, so please fill in your profile as others nearby maybe able to point you in the right direction locally, but Airgun centre is in Rayleigh, Essex.

Suffolk Shooter
