ph5172
Garmin or Magellan Garmin if you are a gps novice as they are really simple to use and most features can be accessed from a main menue or a couple of buttons Magellan if you need a high end unit for route tracking and the like, the ones we trialled had a 50 a4 page user guide the Garmin a5 10 page!! Garmin will do every thing and more that you need it to, including which way to walk if you set a grid/bearing

BSA Shaun
Go for the Garmin then mate, 10 times simpler to use, and you don't want to be messing about in the field! That website is really good too, have personally shopped there a few times.
Hunter
GPS user myself, I can vouch for the Garmin units, they are the best out there. Im about to buy a Garmin GPS map60CSX myself, after recently just selling my GPS 60. I love taking them onboard aircraft (I always ask the main pilot, which is possible if you ask nicley). I then get a window seat and watch the information given. You can see height, speed etc, and download the whole lot to your PC after. Other passengers are always curious Just dont use the unit without the pilots permission. The units are perfectly safe for use onboard, but some pilots or cabin crew may be iffy. Its their flight, and if they arent happy, it doesnt get used. Funnily Easyjet seem to be the least bothered about it Top speed I recorded so far was 590mph at an altitude above 30,000feet. Cant wait tp try the unit in an RAF jet sometime

Oly
Acer N35 GPS PDA Works better/faster than any tom tom etc I have found and you can stick all the 1:25K maps on it for wondering around the countryside etc. Plus if you don't like the satnav program simply upload another type.
