salisburykeeper
the only way of managing wild rabbits i would imagine is to go heavy on the predators, but i dont think the farmers will like the number increasing Another thing is it helps to shoot the rabbit numbers hard as when the myxi comes round as it usually does every year it tends to miss small pockets of rabbits but with the larger warrens it rips right through and affects most of them

Ferretboy111
Why on earth would anyone want to boost rabbit numbers for? May i suggest that you assess your permission and see what is plentiful, such as rooks or pigeons and utilise them. Or ask your permission owner if he knows of anywhere/anyone else who also needs vermin control done on their farms. Alex
Fleabag
well the rabbits on my shoot are verry fin on the ground, apart form not shooting them dose any one now how i can help boost them up in numbers all sugestions welcome russ Rabbits do not need any help to breed, but this time of year it's usually a little more difficult because of the number of hours of sunlight. Rabbits usually breed the most in spring and summer when it's light for 15 hours or more. Most rabbits are not ready to breed until they are at least 6 months old, so don't shoot the tiddlers till after the summer,

Dead-Eyed Duck
One simple answer - shoot the foxes, which are the main predators of rabbits. Also, (and this sounds basic, but) be careful on the numbers of rabbits you shoot. I once shot almost 400 rabbits in a year on one of my first shoots with an air rifle, and regretted it for years afterwards. Farmers can be strange beasts - I have one that rings me to say that he has seen one rabbit, and would I kill it. Others like to see a few about - a few being classified as not enough to affect his pocket in munching the crops. Be aware that as far as I know it is illegal to release live rabbits as they are classified as vermin. Don
