Highlander
As we come to the end of another game shooting season has anyone any thoughts on the likely price increases we're going to face for the 2008/2009 season? I'm not just talking about the cost of buying a day but the cost of putting on and running any sort of gamebird shooting.
alexm
Having just worked out our budget (10 guns) for 2008 we are each going to be stumping up nearly an extra 20% Cost of feed is a big issue obviously, and we have had problems with maintenance of our vehicles this year for one reason or another (mainly the ex-keeper's driving habits ). We have also had problems keeping the birds in this year so are investing in more cover crops and ground cover/saplings for some of our wooded areas. markm
With the cost of grain being twice the price a year ago the feed from crumb to pellets is going to go up considerably as it will be made from this years harvest. Therefore I would expect poults to be at least 50p more each and feed (I bet its a quid more per 25kg bag)
webber
Shoot costs are going to increase quite considerably for the new season. The cost of rearing and transporting the poults has risen by significant amounts over what were considered high prices last year. Gas, wheat, and road fuel prices are generally at all time highs, and will therefore affect the game rearers costs and hence poult prices. Shoots will face higher feed costs, higher fuel costs for the keeper. Steel prices are higher so fencing costs increase and the list goes on. Syndicate members shall need to reach much deeper when the subscription request hits the door mat... Lucky for me mrs. webber pays for me, shall I warn her, or not? webber
Highlander
Talking to our local shoots the concensus appears to be somewhere between a 20% and a 30% increase in the price per bird. That's way above the government guidelines for inflation but when the hell did they ever get anything right!
Sprinter
Our syndicate costs are increasing by 10% next year. This is mainly the cost of feed and fuel pushing it up.
