I used to use a vitara which was perfectly adequate (although i removed the rear seats to make some space) and suprisingly good off road all for £800.

I now own an old 2.8tdl fourtrak which is brilliant best grand ive ever spent. It came fitted with AT grabber tyres and is superb offroad its pretty agricultural to drive but much better than an old landy (which is what i originally wanted) and can do motorway speeds if needed i get around 30mph if i drive sensibly . Its also ideal for shooting from the d/s window which i do a lot. The sunroof is removable which is handy for lamping. It never gets washed and the back is always covered in my shooting c**p. The wife hates it and reckons it smells of cow **** and compares it to driving to to a tractor  I wouldnt be without it.

The only one that never gets stuck - my legs! Much quieter too! Thankfully I'm young (relatively to some!), fit and able, hopefully by carrying on in this vain I'll remain that way!
