Fisherman Mike
I am not aware of any land in my area that the NPPC have access to. I dont know so much about the rolling fields of North Glos/ Oxon border where Will B has some access to farms. Saying that I have always found the Glos Farmers ( Real ones not the stuck up estate type ones with the big RR and the expensive wife) to be genuinely approachable. Keep an ear open next planting season for the noise of the bangers going off mate and approach those that use them politely and courteously and I am sure you will get results... I have access to 4 largish farms and one estate but it took some time and patience... Many Farmers wont like the idea of your shooting when the Birds are not actually causing crop damage unless you can negotiate a rough shoot also. Just by pure coincidence one of the best days shooting I ever had was when I opportunely drove past a couple of Field s on the Northhants/oxon border about 5 years ago. The Birds were hitting the laid wheat in one field by their hundreds. I stopped the car and called at the Farmers House and enquired pointng out that the ******* were even landing on his banger! He said I could shoot as many as I liked and come back whenever I liked until the Bloody lot had gone. I drove the 11/2 hours home for my kit and back and shot the afternoon and evening and all the following day and took 187 birds and didnt even touch the surface of them. My biggest advice to you is to go and see the The farmers personally on a one to one basis rather than write or phone. First impressions count for a lot and put yourself in their shoes.... would you let a complete stranger turn up with a 12 g and shoot over your land on the basis of a introductory phone call or letter..? I certainly wouldnt. Good Luck. FM.
pigeon master
Hi FM, I agree with some of your comments but as a previous post of mine reference calling farmers can save a lot of time and fuel, but it is important to comment that you don’t expect them to give you permission over the phone but ask if there is a chance of coming to the farm and having a chat about their vermin problem them. I gained lots of land to shoot this way and is was accomplished in a few hours on the phone, I do agree that many will not give you a chance but it’s still a good avenue to go down if time is short. Good luck with the land hunt as it’s the hardest of them all for sure. The PM
