Shooting in light winds?

I feel confident when there is at least some wind movement and my confidence increases with the wind strength.

However, I have had some good bags on almost airless days (usually over wheat stubble).

In our area its forecast to be dry, that is the big bonus.

One thing you can be sure of, you will shoot more pigeons by going and giving it a try, than not. :good:

While breezy days are better I have had some good days with no wind. However beware of shooting too close to the holding woods when there is no wind. A couple of shots and all the pigeons will depart from the holding wood for the day if there is no wind , but given a good breeze the sound of shots does not disturb them so much.

I found that out today. No pigeon anywhere except where I wasn't.

I had real problems with high pigeons this morning. With no wind the pigeons were comming over 100+ yards high. They were responding to the magnet and decoys when nearly overhead , but instead of dropping into the decoys almost every bunch cupped their wings and plumited into the wood just behind me.

Solution ..... a 40 yard move back into the wood and treat the birds as though i was roost shooting. 35 shells later and with 21 birds in the bag I moved back to the decoys to kill the only bird of the day over them.

Well I have had both extremes this weekend. On each day there was no wind and bright sunny sky's.

On Saturday the few I saw Were flying at 100 yards plus high and wouldn't come any where near my pattern.

Ended up with 5 and packed up at 2.00pm :good:

On Sunday, exactly the same conditions but different location and the Pigeon came in like Stukas from 100 yards up.

Picked up 47 :D

You just can't tell
