just spoken to "my" farmer, apparently next year there is a new set of rules regarding strips around crops.all fields are to have a two metre strip of grass around them, six metres where the field is next to a stream or river.

the area is then counted as set aside which means more fields of rape etc.

the grass can be topped at the farmers discretion, not like set aside which is done at the peak season for ground nesting birds.

long and short of it is,more shootig sites and good news for wild game :)

:) Mentioned this to a farmer last week and he said that it had not been passed and had been thrown out so will have to wait and see what happens.

This farmer already leaves a patch of grass around most of his fields anyway and it is very handy for driving the motor to the hide. :)

Ern,

Does this explain why we northerners are a lot fitter than yourselves, because we have to carry our gear across every field, as we have no nice bits of grass to drive around ?? :P:D

Or is this more a comment about our local farmers, who are so tight, they use every bit of land to grow produce ?? :):)
