Tail docking (Scotland)

How old is it? I don't think strictly speaking it's legal but it is a bit of a grey area, it would also depend on finding a vet south of the border who would do it for you.

Pups are being whelped in England, docked and dew-clawed and brought "back" to Scotland.

you'll be fine, but finding a vet willing to do it is easier said than done.

There is no law to stop you taking your dogs into England and if you carry out something legally there you won't be commiting an offence, even when you go home.

But it will require at least 2 journeys as you will need to take them back to be microchipped

I think you're stuffed in that case.

is he too old then?

better tell the boy tonite then.

I would say so; it's not docking at that age, it's amputation and without good reason it's highly unlikely any vet will do it.

the dog in question is too old and i believe that the docking law in Scotland does NOT allow the crossing back and forth over the boarder, the animal will have to be residing in England under ownership of someone that side of the boarder for that bitches pups to be docked under the usual docking rules, that is how i understand it anyhow

Its normally up to 3 days old to have their tails docked and dew claws removed.

Although legal in England alot of the larger vets will not do this.....but they are happy to take your money on each visit :good:

The vets we used is a one man band, not like one of these large companies with all their overheads etc.

Where my normal vet would cost approx £40 for a yearly booster for the each dog, this vet charges around £20

Big difference i think, and one i will be supporting

The reason vets are a bit iffy over it is theres a lot of doubt about as to whether the RSPCA will try a test case against one for causing unnecessary suffering. It may be legal but a lot of vets don't want the agro for not a lot of money. Its something to consider before the bitch is even in pup with a call to your vets to see if he will do it. I know my usual vet won't my dad even won't anymore but i shoot with a vet who knows my dogs work who is fine with it.
