your range depends on how confident you are with certain distances. the more practising you get the better you will become and after a while you will be able to shoot further. as long as you are using the right carts. for example 32g 4/5 are brill for some long range shooting whereas 28g 7 i would limit what i was shooting to a closer range. but in short a 40yrd bird with 32g 6 will be fine m8. good luck let us know how you get on.

I agree with what all the other boys say on 5's & 6,s....i like to shoot decoyed birds during the summer when i can get the birds close in with my 26" game s/s using 2 1/2" 28g 7,s or 26g 7's with 1/4 and cylinder, they are fast and easy on your shoulder which is a big factor cos your swing is smooth knowing your gun aint going to bight you, and this combination is deadly up to 30 or so yds.

During the winter i use my Beratta Mod 303 with 32g 2 3/4 5's or 6's and alternate from the 1/4 to the 1/2 choke, depending how close i can get the birds in. Once again it is being smooth with your swing and using a heavy load in a non-auto can make you wince after a while, i like to take quick shots and dont muzzle the birds ...its up-thro-bang....if you dont get it into your shoulder properly and your cheek down onto the stock and you are not using an auto or a properly configured gun your kill ratio suffers.

And like everybody else i have my off days...i spend thousands every year on driven game....but i can only remember the bloody pigeons i have shot
