tinbum71
Hi, I have a small paddock next to my house measuring 50m x 25m. I keep chickens on it and have loads of corvids and some rats moving in. I have neighbours not too far away and my 12's are just too loud for comfort and lamping for rats is right out of the question. My question is this: Would I be better off with a single 12g Hushpower or a standard .410? Take into account range, noise levels and cost. I would love to hear from anyone who has 1st hand knowledge. Cheers Nick
lewis
can you get a 12 bore hushpower?
tinbum71
can you get a 12 bore hushpower? Yup, saddlery and gunroom in Kent do them. I've seen a few in the past offered 2nd hand, but never gave them much thought as I had no need for such a gun.
beatingisbest
I'd say air rifle would do a good job.

We are also on a popular flight path for woodies heading to roost, so I have other motives. It's available as a 12g single for £385 new, or Mossberg 500 conversion with 2 barrels for £495, but I'd be after a s/h single. The .410 is not really any cheaper than the 12 so I had discounted it as an option. Although I see you can buy a slip on moderatror for .410 for £55, it'd be interesting to see how they perform! vole
The 12g Pedretti is normal gun length and a helluva handy gun.Never used the .410 tho.I use one for everything when daytime shooting. Full choke slight problem if eating your kill at times. I try to aim off a bit and plan to get the choke opened sometime.Magpies, squirrel etc dead as doornails,no mistake. person22
i have a .410 pedretti husher i bought from a pigeonwatch member and im very glad i did, its perfect for rabbit shooting at night. at some point during its life someone has welded an led sight on it which is a stroke of genius, i would never sell the gun but would highly recommend them, tomorrow im going to the saddlery and gunroom in kent to have a look at thier hushers, i wanted to get a 20g pedretti hushpower but ive seen they do a mossberg 12g wich comes with a normal barrel so in theory if i bought that i could use it for basically everything ! save space in the gun cabinate! never owned a pump before either, they look fun !! vole
Speak to Saddlery and Gunroom re what you need and prices. I have found them massively helpful. Also if choosing between silenced 12g and normal .410, I do not think there is a vast amount of noise reduction with the .410. Am told the 20g hushpower is quietest due to moderator size in relation to the bore.
