Car Gun Safe -

Hay folks Me and Mrs SS are going more and more to gamefairs now but also want to shoot at the shoots they usually hold. We dont wish to carry our guns round all day but if we leave them in the car we feel we should do our reasonable best to keep them safe. So is it possible to buy a gun safe for the boot of a car or is it cheaper to make one ?

Has anyone bought one and if so how and where from ?

If i make my own i will use steel cable to secure the safe to the car in the boot floor and the cabinet will lock by means of a padlock or fixed lock ! :good:

brattonsound used to make one, that you could take out and bolt down at home.

The alternative is to just lock them in the boot out of sight in an alarmed car and take the forends with you. One step further would be a simple cable lock from a seat mounting and through the trigger mechanisms to stop opportunistic theft

A lot of the gamefairs offer gun "creche" facilities onsite.

Failing that, I fire off both barrels with snap caps in, and remove the fore end to take away with me, and leave the rest of the gun out of sight in the boot, or even locked away in a plastic case.

If it were long enough and narrow enough to go down the barrels i would use one to ancher the barrels to a seatbelt anchor point and just put the stock wrapped in a towel in my rucksack that i would carry around all day with me ! :good:

Looks like i need to get the tape measure out ! :good: cheers

I dunno a decent set of bolt croppers would make short work of that cord lock - either the cable or the trigger guard.

I just wouldn't fancy explaining a theft of a shooter from the car to the old bill under any circumstances.

Has to be a steal box bolted in and down. I reckon you should get your FEO to green card it as well - proper job of covering your botty.

Get a cheap small breakdown gun cabinet and whack it in.

Reasonable precautions are all you need to do though Mungler. If you have the fore end on your person the gun is effectively useless so certainly my FEO is happy with that. In a locked alarmed car and most importantly out of sight someone has to know they are there and want to take a chance. A cord just ups the level to stop the oportunistic thief
