Gun fit

Anybody got any information about the technicalities of gun fitting they could post up ? I mean things like distances from trigger to shoulder when the guns mounted, position of the cheek on the comb etc. etc. You know.... the stuff you get charged a fortune for at the gunsmiths..

Reason I ask is that I have 6 shotguns accumulated over 25 years of shooting ( probably owned about 12 in that time) and have never had any of them "properly fitted"

The stock and comb and width and cast et all seem to be different in each gun but generally I can shoot well with all of them ( mostly !! )

Any info would be appreciated.

FM.

Few tips i have read been told are hold pistol grip with finger on trigger bend arm at 90 deg and the stock should be touching the lower bicep if length is correct and mount gun get someone to put a pound coin right at the rear of the barrels where it meets the action and you should just be able to see the bead just sitting on top of the coin .

Also stare at a point on a wall keep staring , close your eyes mount the gun ,open your eyes and your gun should be pointing at the same point on the wall if it fits well .

My new lanber seemed to be too short in the stock for me(my clay scores dropped from normal) so I ordered a 12mm vulcanite spacer put that on and it fits well now . It now points where I am looking at .

Here's a link to a newsgroup posting about it .

Nice link Tucker

TX sniper I like the the new lanber the newest one's have a slightly new design .

If you go to www.gmk.co.uk and click on request a brochure you can get the new lanber brochure ,Theres's about 10 o/u's in there I got the sporting deluxe brand new for £595 about average price check out www.guntrader.co.uk under guns for sale .

They also come with a 5yr warranty but I shot just as well with my secondhand Lanber field and have had to put a spacer on the new one as it was a bit too short for me .I bought the Lanber Field because when I was looking in the gun shop it fitted me and felt the best . You are better going to a few gunshops and having a look at other makes as well to see what you feel is best for you , and if the gunsmith is ok he will check the fit of the gun for you .

If whatever you choose feels right you will probably shoot better with that gun

even if it only cost's a £100 compared to a gun that does'nt feel right but cost's £3000 .

Cheers
