chrispti
Hi, Just looking for some more opinions on these rifles and what pellets you find work best at long ranges . cheers chris
tweedledee
great gun but a lot of money 30 ft lbs is a nice power level, harder to silence and less pellets to stand the extra blast over 30 ft lbs.bis mags would be up there with aa fields up to 30 ft lbs. dcliff
Agreed ^^ People get a bit carried away with 'power', stealth and accuracy is the killer with an air rifle. I was the same when I bought my FAC air rifle. The man at the gun shop advised me not to get carried away because you'd lose accuracy - as such I bought the .177 Mk3 (circa 18ftlbs) And it's spot on. chrispti
At jls & co, who sell ONLY daystate airguns and has been in the business for 40+ years, told me ALL of his daystate air wolf and air rangers which are FAC are set to 40ftlbs. I was told that any more than that isnt realy usable for 'everyday shooting' and I might aswell get a .17hmr or .22 rimfire. However he did go on to explain that he has sold a few air rangers set at 80ftlbs!!! and the customers havent made any complaints about them! obviously they only get a few shots and they have to use a special air bullet made for the gun, but how much fun would one of those be kdubya, what pellets are you using in the 40ftlb, and what sort of distances can you achieve good groups at? and do you notice any real differance between the 30 and 40ftlb rifles? chris Edited April 21, 2008 by chrispti
tweedledee
buy a rapid in fac around 800 quid and buy a 22/hmr with the change.i think the wolf runs in round £1200.i`d have the other 2 any day.
kdubya
kdubya, what pellets are you using in the 40ftlb, and what sort of distances can you achieve good groups at? and do you notice any real differance between the 30 and 40ftlb rifles? I use aa fields 5.52 in half decent conditions and using my bergen as a rest ( I use a bergen packed with netting as my "hide" / rifle rest) ie I am down prone behind it bunny dont see my outline and the soft bag really is perfect for supporting the gun, I can put a magazine 12 pellets onto a 20p size target! at 65 yards my rifles are both zero'd at 45 both are no brainers from 15 to 55 yards( 1/2" in it) a bit of thought after that as between 30 and 40ftlbs there is an inch difference in holdover at 65 yards, I have shot rabbit out to 90 with my 40lb gun which is actually more than I have done with my rimmie ( see sig) as the rimmie is no where near as accurate over 65 yards FACT now my hmr thats a different story cheers KW
